Licinia Eudoxia was the only daughter of Athenaïs and Theodosius II who ruled the Eastern part of the Empire. Eudoxia married Valentinianus III Emperor of the West on October 29, 437 in Thessalonica. This marriage was seen a possibility to strengthen the relations between the two parts of the empire. In 439 Eudoxia was appointed Augusta, and in the same year her first daughter Eudocia was born. Later on Eudoxia and Valentinianus III had a second daughter Placidia but, as Vegetius tells, in spite of the extraordinary beauty of his wife, one of the main occupations of Valentinianus was to enjoy his time especially indulging in affairs with the wives of someone else.
In 455 Valentinianus III was killed and Eudoxia, although against his accession to the throne, was forced to marry Petronius Maximus the successor of her husband and probably among the instigators of the killers. Petronius was proclaimed Emperor by the Senate, without getting acknowledgement by the Emperor of the East Marcianus therefore he had the necessity to legitimate his power and got Eudocia promised as bride to his son Pallante. Licinia Eudoxia asked Gaiseric, the king of the Vandals, to help, taking advantage of the fact Eudocia had been previously promised to Huneric, his son.
Gaiseric armed his men and announced his march against Rome. Emperor Petronius Maximus did not prepare the defence of the city and decided to escape with his court advising the Senate to do the same. But while marching towards the city limits, the cortege was assaulted by the mobs throwing stones and the Emperor hit and killed. Gaiseric took Rome and sacked the town for a couple of weeks. Licinia Eudoxia and her daughters Eudocia and Placidia were taken to Carthage, where later on Eudocia married Huneric as originally promised. In 462 Eudoxia was allowed to go back to Constantinople, where the second daughter Placidia married Anicius Olybrius, who in 472 was for a short time Emperor of the East. Licinia Eudoxia stayed in the court of Constantinople where died around 493 at the age of seventy.

Licinia Eudossia nacque a Costantinopoli nel 422 unica figlia dell'imperatore d'Oriente Teodosio II e di Atenaide. Eudossia sposò l'imperatore d'Occidente Valentiniano III il 29 ottobre del 437, a Tessalonica. Questo matrimonio riaccese la speranza che si potesse rinsaldare il legame tra le due parti dell'impero. Nel 439 venne insignita del titolo di Augusta, in quello stesso anno nacque la figlia primogenita Eudocia. In seguito Eudossia e Valentiniano III ebbero anche una seconda figlia: Placidia ma, racconta Vegezio, nonostante la straordinaria bellezza di Eudossia una delle preoccupazioni principali di Valentiniano era quella di darsi al bel tempo specie indulgendo a relazioni con le mogli degli altri.
Nel 455 Valentiniano III fu assassinato ed Eudossia, peraltro contraria alla sua salita al trono, si vide costretta a sposare Petronio Massimo successore di suo marito e probabilmente tra gli istigatori dell'assassinio. Petronio era stato proclamato imperatore dal Senato, senza essere riconosciuto dall'imperatore d'Oriente Marciano e aveva necessità di legittimare il proprio potere, quindi fece in modo che Eudocia venisse promessa in sposa a suo figlio Pallante. Licinia Eudossia chiese aiuto al re dei Vandali, Genserico, al cui figlio Unerico era stata precedentemente promessa Eudocia. Genserico si mosse quindi contro Roma: l'imperatore Petronio Massimo invece di organizzare le difese tentò di fuggire dalla città con la sua corte consigliando il Senato di fare lo stesso. Ma uscendo da Roma venne preso a sassate ed ucciso dalla folla. Genserico prese Roma e la saccheggiò per quindici giorni. Licinia Eudossia e le sue figlie Eudocia e Placidia vennero condotte a Cartagine, dove più tardi Eudocia sposò Unerico come era stato inizialmente previsto. Solo nel 462 Eudossia poté far ritorno a Costantinopoli, dove la seconda figlia Placidia sposò Anicio Olibrio, che nel 472 fu per breve tempo imperatore d'Occidente. Licinia Eudossia rimase alla corte di Costantinopoli, dove si spense settantenne intorno al 493.
