Eudocia was the eldest daughter of Roman emperor
Valentinianus
III and his wife,
Licinia Eudoxia
and the granddaughter of Eastern emperor
Theodosius
II and of his wife, the poet Aelia Eudocia. She was married
to
Huneric, heir to the Vandal throne,
son of
Gaiseric, around 460. The emperor
Valentinian III, who in an obvious
strategy to maintain Roman independence and secure military support
of the Vandals, had engaged his daughter to
Huneric,
son of
Gaiseric and aligned the Western
Roman empire with the Vandals. Eudocia had a son with
Huneric,
Hilderic, who reigned as king of the Vandals, from 523-530.
