Placidia was the daughter of the Emperor of the Western Empire Valentinianus III and of his wife Augusta Licinia Eudoxia. She was promised as wife in 454 to the noble Anicius Olybrius. When the Vandals led by Gaiseric sacked Rome Placidia was taken to Carthage together with her mother and with her elder sister Eudocia. Eudocia married Huneric, son of Gaiseric. Meanwhile Olybrius was in Constantinople, where Placidia joined him together with Licinia Eudoxia. The marriage was celebrated in 462.

Placidia fu la figlia minore dell'Imperatore d’Occidente Valentiniano III e di sua moglie l'Augusta Licinia Eudossia. Fu promessa nel 454 al patrizio Anicio Olibrio. Quando i Vandali capeggiati da Genserico saccheggiarono la città di Roma fu portata insieme a sua madre e a sua sorella Eudocia, a Cartagine dove Eudocia sposò Unerico, figlio di Genserico. Nel frattempo Olibrio si era rifiugiato a Costantinopoli, dove Placidia poté raggiungerlo insieme alla propria madre solo dopo lunghi negoziati, e il matrimonio venne infine celebrato nel 462.
